Jace Stringer’s Story
I called home to my husband in tears of joy

I wanted to take a few minutes to express my extreme gratitude toward all of you and your facility. My son Jace has cerebral palsy and I, like most parents, was desperate to find something to help him progress faster. I had heard of intensive therapy but had never talked to anyone who had been there or seen any results for myself. After throwing the idea of going to NAPA around for awhile, I decided I needed to take Jace and find out for myself if this type of therapy was real.

Jace was 16 months old when we first came to NAPA in August of 2007. I wondered how a 16 month old would handle 6 hours of therapy a day because we struggled to get through a 45-minute session at home. I was amazed! He handled it remarkably and made it through the full session without a problem. When we came to NAPA Jace moved around by scooting on his back. He couldn’t crawl on hands and knees and was very stiff in all of his movements.

I told the therapists at NAPA that I would really like to see him be able to crawl on hands and knees as one of his big goals and I threw in the conversation that I’d like to see him take some steps by himself, not really expecting that to happen but I wanted them to know that it was in my wishes for him. I also wanted him to be able to use his left hand like he could his right hand. It was always fisted and he chose not to use it unless he had to.

On day three of our trip to NAPA, Jace was crawling on hands and knees every time he crawled. I already felt like the trip was well worth it. I called home to my husband in tears because I was so excited! If I only knew what was to come…

The therapists at NAPA did heavy therapy with his left hand and by the end of the session I could hand him something and he would actually reach for it with his left hand and started feeding himself finger foods with his left hand. I was very happy with the results.

To top off what I already thought was a very successful trip, Jace learned how to walk in his three weeks at NAPA. By the end of the third week, Jace had taken 79 steps unassisted at one time. You should have heard that phone call home! It was one of the happiest days of my life to see him at NAPA’s graduation walk up by himself to get his trophy! He was very proud of himself too!

I decided to bring Jace back to NAPA in December 2007 to work on some higher level balance issues, stair climbing, going from floor to stand and occupational therapy. This was another very successful session. When Jace came home after this trip he was a completely different kid. He was so much stronger, he started climbing on everything like toddlers do and he just started catching up to other kids his age instead of constantly falling further behind like he was. We owe it all to NAPA Institute and we are huge advocates for your program!

Sincerely,

Becky, Travis & Jace Stringer
