A dream fulfilled!
...walk tall with her friends! This is to express our family’s appreciation of the hard work and dedication of the NAPA staff. With Marissa, the therapists were focused on motivating and guiding her to achieve her best.

In February, when Marissa started at NAPA, she was doing reciprocal crawling and knee walking in an erect position. With the help of NAPA therapy, she progressed to walking with the aid of crutches. Then, she learned to walk over obstacles and even to go up and down three flights of stairs! We watched as her confidence grew daily. During the May therapy session, she was able to walk the length of her hotel corridor without crutches (but with people standing by cheering her on).

As her confidence grew her speech also progressed and this progress was evident even though she was not in speech therapy. For example, at the graduation ceremony, Marissa stepped forward and thanked the staff for all their hard work in her behalf. This speech, in front of the other children and their parents, was something she had never done before. It made her grandmother, cry, because it was so clear and so brave.

As well as providing a personalized therapy plan for use at home, the therapists at NAPA communicated with the teachers at Marissa’s school to devise a plan of continuing therapy. Up to this point, Marissa rode the school bus in her wheelchair, was fed her lunch in her wheelchair, and spent most of the school day in her wheelchair. Now, she only uses her wheelchair at school when she has to go to a different building when it is raining. With the expert therapists at the NAPA Institute, Marissa has progressed much farther than doctor’s ever predicted.

Since Marissa was diagnosed, she’s had therapy at Shriners Hospital and made three trips to Euromed in Poland. Her progress with Euromed was amazing, but the trips were so long that she arrived worn out. It is wonderful to have NAPA so close to home.

Thank you so much for all your help in getting Marissa up on her feet. It has been a life-long goal of hers to walk tall with her friends!

We wish you all the best in the future and welcome any chance to work with again.

Bless you!
